Learning to farm sustainbly

Contrary to what one might think with a title like Farmer Chic, I will not be sporting the latest line of Burberry Plaid shirts (although, plaid is in right now) or Monolos in the field. I own nothing of the sort. It was actually a suggestion from my friends, who happens to be in the fashion industry. We were joking about how I could wear the latest fashion line out in the fields and call it farmer chic. And the name just stuck.

Although I am no city girl by any means; I have never belonged to 4-h either. I kind of grew up in between. Some exposure to agriculture through my dads love of gardening, and plenty of experience picking fruit, both in Canada and for four weeks in Australia.

I will be interning at a non-profit 225 acre farm, Glynwood, located in the lower Hudson Valley region. Over the next 10 months, I will be providing livestock care for cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, chicken and turkey, composting, planning and growing vegetables on a two acres plot for the 50-member Community Supported Agriculture, and providing farm-based education.
